I barely remember my First Communion, but I’m fairly certain it didn’t include nearly as much pomp, circumstance, or lace as Nadia’s. She was lovely, adorned and pampered and fretted over, taking everything in stride (including what looked like a rather grueling hair do). And after her very first Holy Eucharist, I could tell it was worth it.
